Equipment
- Medium saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Zester or fine grater
- Measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients
- 12 oz (340g) Ocean Spray fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- Zest and juice of 1 orange
- 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Once the sugar has dissolved, bring the mixture to a boil. Add the Ocean Spray cranberries, orange zest, orange juice, grated ginger, cinnamon, and salt.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Stir occasionally, allowing the cranberries to pop and the sauce to thicken.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Once cooled, transfer the sauce to a serving bowl or storage container. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Notes
The addition of fresh grated ginger sets this recipe apart from traditional cranberry sauces. It adds a warm, spicy note that complements the tartness of the cranberries and brightens the overall flavor profile. This unique twist elevates the classic recipe while maintaining its familiar comfort.
For a smoother sauce, you can blend it slightly with an immersion blender after cooling. If you prefer a chunkier texture, lightly mash some of the cranberries with a fork while cooking.
